Section 508 Compliance: Multimedia Platforms
Considering the vast need and applicability of multimedia platforms in strategic communications, the federal government is increasingly using multimedia messaging in their websites and social media. As a result, there is a growing need for ensuring that this messaging is Section 508 compliant.
Compliance is required in all forms of multimedia – videos, podcasts, .mp3 files and other audio file formats. Often, simply including text transcripts of these files does not constitute compliance. Section 508 outlines specific requirements.
We have successfully audited and implemented compliance measures for all types of multimedia platforms, providing equivalent alternatives including:
- Elimination of flickering/flashing imagery
- Open and closed captioning
- Text transcripts of audio-only files
