Section 508 Compliance: Multimedia Platforms
Considering the vast need and applicability of multimedia platforms in strategic communications, the Federal government is increasingly incorporating multimedia messaging into their websites and social media interactions. As a result, there is a growing need for ensuring that this messaging is Section 508 compliant.
Compliance is required in all forms of multimedia – videos, podcasts, .mp3 files and other audio-file formats. Often, simply including text transcripts of these files does not constitute compliance. There are specific requirements outlined in Section 508 that must be followed.
We have successfully audited and implemented compliance measures for all types of multimedia platforms, providing equivalent alternatives including:
- Open and closed captioning
- Elimination of flickering/flashing imagery
- Text transcripts of audio-only files
